About
The Center for Emerging Journalism is a student-founded nonprofit that helps young journalists publish work, develop skills, and access real-world experience.
We publish VantageToday.com, a general interest publication featuring the work of student and early career journalists. Our platform engages an audience spanning 20 countries and garners tens of thousands of unique website views annually, with staff spanning 24 cities across six U.S. states, Spain, Canada, and the UK.
Our history
CEJ was founded in June 2024 by William Liang, Leo Dublin, and Daisy Chen. It started as a student-run publication, but quickly grew as more writers, editors, and staff joined from across the country. By April 2025, it was clear that publishing alone wasn’t enough. We wanted to do more, like hosting camps and mentorship programs for high school students, led by our college and graduate-level writers, and organizing trainings, workshops, and Q&A sessions with working journalists. To make that possible, we decided to become a nonprofit. That structure allows us to seek outside funding and partnerships so we can continue building opportunities for young journalists in a sustainable way.
